Henipavirus infections, including those caused by Nipah virus and Hendra virus, are severe zoonotic diseases associated with high mortality rates, significant outbreak potential, and the ability to cause life-threatening encephalitis and respiratory disease. Despite their serious public health threat, there are currently no approved therapies for human use and only limited preventive options, underscoring the urgent need for effective antiviral treatments and broadly accessible medical countermeasures.

CD3 and KU Leuven have several small-molecule antiviral series in development with activity against henipaviruses.
