Frequently asked questions.

Have additional questions? Here is further insight into how we work and what to expect from a collaboration.

CD3 collaborates with academic teams whose biological or chemical discoveries show strong therapeutic potential but might require further de-risking. We combine your research with industry-standard drug discovery capabilities. Dedicated investment supports the advancement of early-stage concepts toward high-quality therapeutic candidates. These candidates may progress to a pharma partnership for  clinical development or form the basis of a spin-off.

CD3 supports strong, science-driven projects with compelling targets and clear therapeutic potential, regardless of disease area. We contribute deep drug discovery expertise, while your in-depth knowledge of disease and target biology helps guide strategic project decisions. Together, we combine complementary expertise to maximize the potential for therapeutic impact.

CD3 develops small-molecule therapeutics, including targeted degraders such as molecular glues and PROTACs. We also work on biologics, including therapeutic antibodies and antibody–drug conjugates (ADCs).

Although affiliated with KU Leuven in Belgium, CD3 collaborates with academic partners across Europe and beyond.

Collaborations typically start from innovative concepts aimed at modulating biological targets or pathways to address unmet medical needs. Biologically active compounds at any stage of preclinical development may also serve as starting points.

We assess proposals based on:

  • a strong biological rationale and therapeutic relevance
  • an acceptable safety profile
  • a clear unmet medical need
  • feasibility and potential for development, including available assays and models

Yes. CD3 is an investment fund that invests in every collaborative drug discovery project it undertakes. Our partnerships are based on a shared-risk, shared-reward model, with both parties contributing resources and commitment. CD3 also actively supports grant applications and may provide direct investment in start-ups and biotech companies.

Publication rights and timelines are clearly defined in the collaboration agreement. CD3 recognizes the importance of scientific output for academic partners and has a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications with collaborators. We are committed to enabling high-quality scientific publications while safeguarding intellectual property and downstream development opportunities. Through open communication and clear planning, publication and commercialization objectives can be successfully aligned.

Projects are conducted in close collaboration with our academic partner. Data, milestones and next steps are reviewed jointly on a regular basis, to ensure transparent and aligned decision-making. CD3 will appoint a team member to drive the project leadership and management.

CD3 Labs, operates fully equipped medicinal chemistry and biology laboratories where our chemists, biologists and project leaders conduct discovery activities. Part of the work is also performed by our academic partner or with external CRO’s.

No. We don’t provide fee-for-service research. We engage exclusively in collaborative drug discovery partnerships with shared scientific and strategic goals and invest in spin-offs and innovative biotechs.

Proposals can be submitted at any time. We welcome an initial discussion to assess mutual interest in your ideas.

We kick off with a non-confidential discussion. If there is alignment, an NDA is established for a detailed scientific review. Following internal evaluation, which typically takes several weeks, we provide structured feedback.
