Alpha-synuclein (aSyn) is a neuronal protein that misfolds and aggregates in Parkinson’s disease. Accumulation and spread of aSyn in the brain, via a process known as seeding, contributes to dopaminergic neuron dysfunction and degeneration, driving motor and non-motor symptoms. In collaboration with KULeuven we have identified small molecules which prevent Alpha-Synuclein seeding, and these will be further developed as potential therapeutics for Parkinson’s disease.
