Outlicensing pre-clinical assets to pharma

CD3 advances early-stage academic discoveries into characterized lead and pre-clinical drug candidates, ready for pharmaceutical development. Once a program reaches sufficient maturity and de-risking, the asset is licensed to a pharmaceutical partner to progress into clinical development.

This model allows the original innovators (academic researchers and early-stage collaborators) to retain fair value from their discoveries while ensuring the science continues to progress. Ongoing scientific involvment after licensing provides continuity and reduces handover risk for the acquiring partner.

Our outlicensing pipeline includes lead and pre-clinical candidates across multiple therapeutic areas.with more than 20 commercial deals successfully completed with pharmaceutical partners to date.

Speeding up drug development

CD3 provides access to high-potential drug candidates that are:

  • de-risked through systematic validation and lead optimization
  • originating from close academic and biotech collaboration
  • supported by continued scientific involvement beyond licensing

Licensing outcomes

Our discovery groundwork makes sure licensing translates into real progress. Here are some licensing examples with impactful outcomes.

CD3 / KU Leuven / VIB licensed

TEAD inhibitor program (including SWTX-143)

to SpringWorks Therapeutics

for Hippo–YAP/TAZ driven cancers.

Current Status/Milestone:

Licensed in 2021; lead compound SWTX-143 has advanced into Phase I clinical development.

Impact – clinical and/or commercial:

Established the first-in-class irreversible TEAD inhibitor program, validating TEAD as a novel therapeutic target and enabling clinical development of a potential new treatment strategy for cancers driven by Hippo–YAP/TAZ pathway dysregulation.
